Çocuk işçiliği gelişen dünyanın olduğu gibi ülkemizin de en önemli sorunlarından birisidir. Uluslararası Çalışma Örgütü (ILO) ve TUİK tarafından yayınlanan istatistikler çalışan çocukların önemli oranda eğitim hakkının da gasp edildiğini ortaya koymaktadır. Dünya’da her 5 çocuktan biri çalışmak zorunda bırakılırken, bu çocuklar sağlıklı bir çevreden ve temel özgürlüklerden de mahrum kalmakta, fiziksel, sosyal, kültürel, duygusal ve eğitsel gelişime zarar veren koşullarda çalıştırılmaktadır. Türkiye’de yaşayan bir milyondan fazla çocuk, ağır ve tehlikeli işlerde çalıştırılıyor. Bu çocukların 400 binden fazlası, Uluslararası Çalışma Örgütü’nün çocuk işçiliğinin en kötü biçimlerinden biri olarak tanımladığı mevsimlik gezici tarım işçiliğinde çalışıyor. 2012 yılına kadar istihdamda olan çocuk işçi saysındaki düşüş eğilimi 2012 sonrasında ev işlerinde çalıştırılan çocuk işçiliğine dönüşerek artışa geçtiği gözlemlenmektedir. Bu süreçte çocuk işçiler ücretsiz işçi ya da ucuz işgücü olarak en çok sömürülen kesimi oluşturmaya devam etmektedir. Özellikle mülteci konumunda ülkemize gelen çocukların ucuz ve kayıtsız işgücü olarak çalıştırıldığı anlaşılmaktadır.
Hukuki Mücadele Derneği olarak yetkili mercileriden çocuk işçiliğinin önlenmesi konusunda gerekli tedbirlerin alınmasını ve kamuoyununun ise bu konuda yeterli duyarlılığı göstermesini diliyor, bu konudaki mücadeleye katılmaya çağırıyoruz.
Çünkü çocukların tek işi çocuk olmaktır.
